Piccirillo, Escobar elected to board
Mohonasen residents approved the district’s 2016-2017 school budget with 1,030 yes votes and 421 no votes, a margin of 71 percent.
The $48.36 million budget carries a 0.76 percent spending increase over the current year and a 2.21 percent increase in the tax levy. The tax levy increase is within the district’s tax levy limit calculation.
“We are grateful to everyone who came out and voted today,” said Superintendent Dr. Kathleen Spring. “We appreciate the community’s support for education and their local schools.”
Voters also approved a $560,000 proposition to purchase five full-size, 66-passenger school buses, with 1,041 voting in favor and 405 voting against it.
Residents also elected incumbent Robert Piccirillo (770 votes) and Deborah Escobar (669 votes) to the Board of Education. Candidates Gary Spadaro (651 votes) and Heather Quinn (565 votes) were defeated.
Candidates ran at-large and were elected to unpaid, three-year terms beginning July 1.
