Mohonasen Summer School Grading Policy:

Each Mohonasen student’s summer school grade will be averaged with the course grade from the regular school year to determine the final grade for the course. For example, a student who earned a regular session grade of 50 must earn a minimum summer school grade of 80 in order to end up with a passing grade of 65 and credit for the course.

General information

Registration: Summer School registration will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 26 in the High School Cafe B.

Attendance: Daily attendance is necessary for a student to be successful in Summer School. Students may not exceed three (3) absences for the duration of the summer school program. Excessive absences and tardiness may result in loss of course credits. Minutes are counted toward a student’s attendance record. During the summer session there is no opportunity for makeup work. Any missed classwork, tests, etc., will result in a zero, regardless of the reason for absence.

Parking: Students driving to Summer School must park in the designated student parking lot.

Bicycle storage: Bike storage will be available for students at their own risk. Use of bike locks is strongly recommended.

Discipline: Summer School students are expected to abide by the Mohonasen Code of Conduct. Students referred to the office for disciplinary reasons risk suspension and jeopardize their chances of successfully completing the summer requirements.
Regents exams: In courses leading to a Regents exam, students are required to take the summer Regents exam on August 16 and 17.

Walk-in Regents exams: Students who are not enrolled in a Summer School class can still take the August Regents, but they should register on June 26. Walk-in registrations will be accepted after this date if space is available.

Family Open Swim
Family Open Swim refers to time designated for individuals and families to use specific areas of the pool for recreational swim. This usually involves both the deep and shallow ends of the pool. An adult must accompany any child under the age of 12. The minimum age to participate is 3 years old. Additional cards can be purchased at any time. Once registered, you may pick your swim card up at the pool. Bathing caps required for long hair.

Preschool Aquatic Program
This class is designed for a child of any age being introduced to the pool with an adult. An instructor leads along each session while parents/adults use several holding positions to lend support and reassurance as children explore the water and practice skills such as water adjustment, bubble blowing, entry and exit. Class emphasis is on fun and safety. Parents must accompany their child in the water.

LEVEL 1: Polliwog: Students in Level 1 are oriented to the aquatic environment. With the instructors support, students are taught the following elementary aquatic skills: floating, basic swimming on front/back, submerging under water for the first time.
LEVEL 2: Tadpole: Students learn the fundamental skills without instructor support. This marks the beginning of true locomotion skills. Students are able to move around independently in shallow water alternating arms and legs on their back and front to lay the foundation for future strokes.
LEVEL 3: Minnow: The objective of Level 3 is to build on the skills in Level 2 by providing guided practice in coordinating front and back crawl. Students should feel comfortable in the deep water. Introduction to treading water and kneeling dives are in the deep water. To move to Level 4, students must swim 25 yards, front and back crawl, plus additional skills.
LEVEL 4: Sun Fish: Students increase their endurance by swimming familiar strokes (front crawl, back crawl, elementary back stroke and back crawl) for greater distance. The breaststroke and sidestroke are introduced along with the basics of turning at the wall.
LEVEL 5: Flying Fish: The objective of Level 5 is the coordination and refinement of all strokes: front and back crawl, butterfly, elementary, backstroke, breaststroke and sidestroke. Flip turns on front and back are introduced.
LEVEL 6: Warrior: Level 6 refines the stroke so students swim them with ease, efficiency and over great distances. This level prepares students to participate in more advanced courses, such as Lifeguard training, and Water Safety Instructor training.

Not sure what level to register your child for? E-mail the Aquatics Supervisor at mvachon@mohonasen.org for advice and information. If your child is now enrolled in lessons, ask the instructor if your child should repeat the level or move up in the next session.

Water Aerobics: June 25-July 25

Mondays & Wednesdays, 9 classes, 7-8 p.m.
Fees: $50 Residents; $70 Non-Resident; $40 Resident Seniors (55 and up)

Utilize the natural resistance provided by the water to challenge and exercise all major muscle groups in one class and get a great aerobic workout at the same time. This is a great class for adults or teens looking to maintain their fitness program.
