Seventh graders in Marissa Petta’s class dedicated their classwork to a good cause – spreading awareness about bullying. The students created public service announcements, commercials and presentations about school bullying statistics and demonstrated the devastating effects bullying can have on students. This unit goes hand-in-hand with the students’ lesson on “Freak the Mighty,” a young adult novel written by Rodman Philbrick that tells the story of two students who are ostracized and bullied by their peers.
