Girls cross country coach Bill Sherman inspired a whole lot of pink at Monday’s practice.
Sherman reached out to Facebook friends over the weekend with a promise to wear a pink tutu and dye his hair pink during work and practice on Monday if he raised $1,000 for breast cancer research.
Sherman, who works full-time for the American Cancer Society Action Network, is taking part in the “Real Men Wear Pink” challenge through which community leaders raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research.
When Sherman raised $1,420 in 24 hours, he kept his promise to go pink for the day.
What Sherman didn’t know was that his team planned to show their support by wearing pink on Monday as well.
“I was shocked when I pulled up to practice,” said Sherman. “It made me feel great that they showed such solidarity.”
Though he was touched by his team’s support, he didn’t let them off the hook for practice.
“We still had a hard workout,” Sherman said, smiling.
As Sherman gears up to wear pink every day in October as part of “Real Men Wear Pink,” his goal is to raise $2,500.
