Dear Mohonasen Parents,
As Mr. Shine shared in his earlier communication, I hope this letter finds you and your family is doing well. It has really been difficult for me personally and professionally to not have the daily interactions with our students, staff and families. I have enjoyed reading with the students nightly on Facebook Live at 7 PM. I would love to have more families join. We are just getting started with Judy Blume’s Super Fudge, chapter book. We certainly all understand the seriousness that COVID-19 has pressed upon our entire community and I hope that you are taking precautions to prevent the further spread. With that said, I just also wanted to echo Mr. Shine with how truly touching it is to have so many in our community offering support and resources to take care of our families.
We have created a “Grab and Go” breakfast and lunch option district-wide and through this have been able to meet one of our very basic needs for many of our families. The District will continue to provide meals to any in-district students in need of a “grab and go” manner via curbside delivery to cars. Parents should sign up for grab and go meals at the following link, https://forms.gle/B2JKyfy1F9YVGEk4A. The food pick up location for students from all schools is the High School Auditorium Lobby from 9:30am-11:30am every other day. Next week, grab and go will be on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and then back to Tuesday and Thursday the following week should we be in a longer closer period. We have also been able to supplement families with resources from our building Anchor Room. We will also continue serving the families connected to the Backpack Program. If you are in need of resources, please contact the main office for assistance.
In addition, we have provided families with remote access to instructional resources to support learning from home, as well as paper packets with additional learning activities. We understand that currently our closure is through April 1st, but also know that the closure could extend for a longer period of time, so this week, I have been planning with our teams of teachers remotely to provide more instructional support with hopes to deliver new content and instruction.
We will continue to have both on-line and paper packet resources available, but are also hoping to offer instruction on new concepts and skills, so that we can reduce the “slide” as much as possible. With that being said, we have created a schedule, which is below to outline what each day of home learning can look like.
The Trimester 2 Report Cards will, hopefully, be going home by mail on Friday, March 27th, as well as student progress notes and a parent letter related to placement for the 20-21 school year. Please feel free to email input on placement for the 20-21 school year to lesmith@mohonasen.org, or mail information to the school. You can also fax information to 518-346-8404.
The teachers will be planning for learning activities to cover ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies, as well as special areas, Music, Art, and PE. For students who receive more specialized instruction or related services, the teachers will also be providing activities that allow students to work toward their individual goals.
Please note that your child’s teacher(s) will be providing feedback on learning activities, if it applies. We appreciate your support and flexibility as we do our best to prepare home learning opportunities. I would encourage each parent to stay in contact with their child’s teacher(s) and reach out if you need anything.
For continued updates you can also visit our district website and follow on Twitter @Bradtprimary and @MohonCSD. Our school office hours are, 8-3 daily. Please note if there are any personal items that are needed from classrooms, for example, eye glasses, sneakers, please contact the main office and these items can be picked up in the main entrance of the school during the regular office hours. The main office can be reached at 518.356.8401 should you need any further assistance.
In Partnership,
Leslie Smith
Principal
Mrs. Smith will continue to use Facebook live as a means for read aloud daily at 7 PM Monday-Thursday.
BRADT HOME LEARNING SCHEDULE
Please note that we are hoping you can incorporate each piece of the schedule into your child’s day. Your child’s teacher may be providing videos of read-alouds or instruction, linked to your electronic forms of communication, ie email or Class Dojo, so if we don’t have an email for your family, please reach out to your child’s teacher. Please also note that any grades gained from completion of work are only used for informational purposes and will not impact a child’s overall performance.
