At its Nov. 18 meeting, the Mohonasen Board of Education appointed Sara Lewis as the district’s Director of Special and Alternative Education following a comprehensive search and selection process. Lewis was formerly the Director of Pupil Services and Special Education Programs for the Greater Johnstown School District.
She will begin with the district on Jan 6, 2020.
“As a Mohon Proud community member, I’m excited to join the Mohonasen School District,” Mrs. Lewis said. “I’m committed to fostering an educational environment that seeks success for all students and empowers family and staff to keep the individual child the priority. Living in the community has allowed me to see first hand the love this community has for all of its students and I’m eager to be part of this wonderful school district.”
Lewis brings nearly two decades of special education teaching and administrative experience to Mohonasen. In Johnstown, Lewis supervised a staff of 60, developed programming, chaired the committee on special education, and led professional development on a wide range of topics related to student achievement and support.
Lewis has a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Geneseo, a master’s degree from the University at Albany, and certification as a New York State School District Leader from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. Prior to joining Johnstown in 2014, Lewis was a special education teacher with the Cobleskill-Richmondville and East Greenbush school districts.
