Our mission of providing food, clothing and supplies to all students in need at Mohonasen wouldn’t be possible without our community’s support.
Most recently, the district’s MohonCARES program (Connecting Area Resources to Empower Students) has partnered with Messiah Lutheran Church to collect new undergarments for our students. The church has launched a drive to collect 250 new socks, pairs of underwear and bras each.
“I couldn’t be more proud of our awesome young people supporting their fellow students in need,” Rev. Dustin Wright, pastor of Messiah Lutheran Church, said. “It might sound like a silly thing, but undergarments are something we all need, and supporting our neighbors is something at the heart of our faith.”
Superintendent Shannon Shine added, “If we meet our students’ most basic needs, they will then be ready to learn. Our mission is to meet the food, clothing and supply needs of every Mohonasen student. Thank you to Messiah Lutheran for partnering with us in this endeavor.”
The official launch will be at the church this Sunday, Sept. 8 at 10:45 a.m at 2850 Guilderland Ave. in Rotterdam. Donations can be dropped off in marked bins by the front entrance on Oak Street. All (new) items needed include men’s and women’s socks, men’s boxers and briefs of all sizes, women’s underwear of all sizes, sports and regular bras of all sizes.
